This put a smile on my face. My friend was trying to encourage me that this will be a good year.
I have a few months left of 49 but that looming 5-0 has me realizing I'll be switching gears. Signs of fertility (or lack thereof) are becoming unpredictable, my skin will continue to become more "crepey". Therefore, my health is going to be of utmost importance. I want to move into the second half of my personal century with energy and wisdom!
What You Should Be Doing as You Age
Eat a handful of walnuts in the morning.
(Why? Because research shows that this antioxidant-rich food can help protect against cancer and other diseases like dementia and Alzheimer's. Bonus! They help rid the body of toxins that cause early aging. -info from The Art of Anti-Aging)
Get proper thyroid testing done.
(Why? You might have the classic thyroid symptoms - hair is falling out, cold all the time, no energy, constipated, really dry skin... the doc tests the thyroid and says "you're fine." Are you though? TSH might look fine but it's not necessarily measuring how the thyroid itself is actually working... you can have normal TSH but still have low thyroid production and low thyroid conversion. -info from Dr. Michelle Sands*)
Toss the ooey, gooey skin care products.
(Why? "... a lot of the stuff that people pay bookoo bucks for, that smell ooey, gooey, great, these things are really, really bad for your body, and they’re horrible for your skin." Dr. Eric Zielinski's interview* with Brian Vaszily in the Art of Anti-aging resource, discussing leaky skin syndrome.)
Put the sun back in your control.
(Why? You SHOULD sunbathe because you need sun exposure to combat vitamin D deficiency, but if you burn, you're going to increase your risk of skin cancer. Listen in on Dr. Lani Simpson's interview* where she discusses her experiences with over 20 different skin cancer diagnoses due to frequent sunburns early in her own life.)
Control the stress.
(Why? "Stress wrecks havoc upon your body, reducing your ability to make good decisions and aging you quicker." -Wellness Workshop, Course by Katie Corbett)
