Meet my Functional Medicine Certified Health Coach, Kerry Chamberlain
Renee Harris, owner of MadeOn Skin Care, talks about some of the issues that people deal with and why they should seek the help of functional medicine. Kerry's role is to come alongside the functional medicine doctor to keep the patient on track. While I personally don't have a functional medicine doctor, I've learned SO MUCH from my coaching sessions with Kerry. Find out more in our interview.

Video Highlights
0:39 -Kerry: My role is really to come alongside in support, and really help to take the things that have been challenging or allusive in somebody's health and life, and kinda tease in, dig into that, and find out what those root issues are so that they can be addressed and changed. But that's really at the direction of my client.
1:30 - Renee: I went into this not really knowing what to expect, other than I had various issues and questions that I figured you could apply your knowledge toward.
2:09 - Renee: You had a questionnaire for me and we went from there. What opened my eyes was that you didn't have a pat answer like, "just do the keto diet and that'll take care of it". It was much more than that. I feel like you're teaching me how to listen to my body.
2:50 - Renee: Between having someone keep me accountable, having someone point things out to me, having suggestions to try out and discuss, I'm finding out from working with you what lifestyle changes are making a big difference.
3:55 - Kerry points out that it's not just one thing that people need to focus on or worry about. Sleep issues and a sedentary lifestyle can affect weight. People don't think of that. Food sensitivity issues vary wildly. What's great in your body might not be great in my body. How foods make you feel is part of the big picture. I help people notice those things.
6:00 - Kerry: Food intolerances can take a few days to play itself out. It's not always a quick direct cause and effect. It can also affect not just you physically, but it can play out in your mood.
7:51 - Kerry discusses what a Functional Medicine Certified Health Coach is trained in. Food is just one little piece of the puzzle.
8:27 - Kerry: You might be eating all the right food, but if you're eating it at your desk, while you're working, and while you're stressed, you're not going to digest your food properly. Even if it's the perfect food.
10:52 - Kerry: What I love about functional medicine is that it looks at the whole body. We are not just our thyroid. We are not just our pancreas. We are not just our colon. I specialize in migraines but what people don't realize is that the head is directly connected to your gut through the vagal nerve, and because of that, what happens in the gut is directly affecting the brain.
11:58 - Kerry: The way a functional medicine doctor looks at lab work is different. What is YOUR normal range, not what an insurance company's range is dictating.
13:07 - Kerry: a functional medicine doctor can make recommendations for supplements and lifestyle changes based on what they see as the whole picture of what is happening with your body. It's very different from what another doctor would do. They use pharmaceuticals as a last resort, not a first.
15:02 - Kerry helps the patients with what they are able to change. It doesn't have to be an all or nothing. Maybe one is easy to give up, but something else is not. She works with the patient to come up with a reasonable compromise. It's about what works for an individual person.
15:18 - Kerry offers a 15-minute call with clients to determine if they'd like to hire her for her services. In this last few minutes, she discusses what she would cover in a 15-minute call, and what future calls would include.
16:38 - Renee: I have a lot of customers who come to me asking for that fix for their child's eczema or their own psoriasis. I know it's not always a quick fix. There are underlying triggers. So I appreciate having you as someone I can point people to for help. I LOVE that you offer hope and you let people know that it may involve baby steps, but sometimes it's just one little tweak that changes things.
18:20 - Kerry: The biggest thing I want to share with the world is that whatever we've been diagnosed with, whatever we are struggling with, even if we don't have a diagnosis yet, there is so much we can do to move that needle. Through lifestyle change, and mind-body medicine, there's so much we can do.

I love Simply Soothing rash cream and have got it as a gift for several friends. I feel like it only takes one or two applications before the diaper rash is gone. I especially love it in stick form because it makes it so easy to access. It doesn't have that gross sticky feel that other creams have and I feel comfortable putting it on my baby's skin because of the good ingredients.

Renee at MadeOn Skin Care is a dream with which to work. We have serious allergies to commercially prepared products and Renee asked specific questions to determine which products might be appropriate. Within three days of ordering, I had product in hand to try. And, best of all, I received a follow up email asking about the allergic response. Excellent customer service AND product. Thanks Renee!

This lip balm is so wonderful because it creates smooth, moisturized lips with a barely-there tint that is sheer and pretty. The Crimson Rose is my favorite, but I also like the Copper Glow.
