Notes on the Interview
- In Feb 2020 Katie went on a Hawaiian vacation (little did she know that this trip would turn into a 7 month journey to fix her skin issues)
- Preparation to leave caused massive stress & sleep deprivation, plus poor diet from holidays
- She was diagnosed with "Connective tissue autoimmune condition"
- Only homeopathy helped
- Her stress bucket overflowed
- Ideally we want to master our stress

- How do you respond to your stress?
- It’s not the situation, it’s the gap between what’s being asked & what we have to bring
- What we know: the stress response is fight or flight
- Type 1: acute
- Type 2: chronic
- Increased cortisol, cardio stress, glucose stored as fat, decrease immune function, decreased memory, decreased focus & attention, desensitized
- Figure out how stressful events can help us, not hurt us
- 6 different stress reactions, fight or flight, freeze/faint, tend/befriend (stress clean or stress bake) can cause burnout caring for others
- Raise awareness so we can shift our reactions to a response
- Pause and choose how you want to respond
- What can we learn about our stress, and how can we transform it for good
- You're needed/wanted/important
- We can’t delete our stress, but we can raise our capacity to handle it
- Plug holes by unplugging, exercise, prayer, having healthy family meals, getting outside
- Executive State, prefrontal lobes, what can I learn from this? (Adult)
- Emotional State, Limbic System, Am I loved? (Middle school)
- Survival State, Brain Stem, Am I safe? (Toddler)
- The brain is wired for the negative
- Breath, Feel, Focus to take back your brain! (Remember: BFF)
- Focus on something that brings joy & bloom with gratitude
- When you’re feeling stressed, do a BFF. Breathing is a simple hack
