Notes on the Talk
- 9 months ago or so, 15 year old son started developing eczema/rash on his face, then neck, arms
- My mind goes immediately to: food, stress, change in environment
- In case it’s a one-off thing, we just apply Simply Soothing or Beesilk to get relief, and sometimes that's enough to make it go away.
- Frustration of the fact that it stayed, and stayed, and would get worse
- Itchy
- Rashy
- Son just wanted a prescription (anything!) to be done with it
- Why I didn’t want to go that route (but almost did… and in SOME cases, I would)
- What we tried (diet) and what made that really difficult
- Assumptions that we made (eggs, wheat b/c of dad… dairy b/c my system doesn't do well with dairy)
- Simply Soothing - ALWAYS applied it at night. It’s the one thing that helped. But didn’t cure it
- So: Blood work
Questions asked by the doc:
- Difficulty breathing?
- History of skin issue(s)?
- Stomach issues?
- Celiac? (dad’s sister has it)
- Environmental?
- Does your homemade zinc ointment really have enough zinc to make a difference?
- IGE Immunoglobulin score was off the charts 2682 vs my 32
- Next step: allergy test with the blood
What we found out:
- All nuts and seeds (maybe cashews are okay, but we’re laying off all of them)
- Wheat, but not gluten
- Coconut? Is it a seed, a fruit or a nut?
- Dairy, eggs, fish - all fine
- Can’t do Simply Soothing anymore (so we made him a zinc ointment with jojoba oil, zinc oxide and beeswax.)

Kerry also touches on the elimination diet and what to expect if you try it.
