Low Vitamin D Symptoms and What to Do About It

Last fall, I found out I was deficient in Vitamin D. My functional medicine doctor prescribed Vitamin D supplements and I started taking them right away.

But I wasn't expecting this side effect...

I am blessed with the ability to fall asleep the minute my head hits the pillow.

Even if it's only 9 p.m.

Except for last night.

I had high energy well past 11 p.m.

I'd like to attribute it to a perfect, nutrition-rich diet, nap at noon, life/work balance, but no, that wasn't it.

I'm pretty sure it was because I took my Vitamin D supplement in the evening, something I haven't done before.

I first read this in one of the resources in the Women's Wellness Bundle to never take your Vitamin D supplement in the afternoon/evening. I didn't quite believe it until I did some more research online. Search for yourself but there's truth to it!
Here's what else I learned about Vitamin D from the Wellness Bundle (specifically, from Secrets to Controlling your Weight, Cravings and Mood by Maria Emmerich).

☀️ Vitamin D affects the production of serotonin (a contributor to feelings of well-being and happiness). Serotonin levels fluctuate on a circadian 24-hour cycle.
☀️ Vitamin D provides you with energy, so take in the morning (aha! That *might* have contributed to my high energy night last night).
☀️ Get your Vitamin D levels checked. If they are too high, it can cause an inability to sleep. (I've had mine checked and they're typically too low).
☀️ If your doctor says your Vitamin D levels are in the normal range, ask for that number. You want to be around 70.
☀️ Dealing with chronic fatigue and depression? It might be due to low Vitamin D.
☀️ Dealing with infertility? You might be low in Vitamin D. PMS? It's been reversed with the addition of calcium, magnesium and Vitamin D.
☀️ Struggling with psoriasis? Vitamin D supplements have been known to help.
☀️ Time outside is so crucial in boosting our Vitamin D levels, that some medical professionals are calling time in nature as "Vitamin N".

Spend some time reading the book Secrets to Controlling your Weight, Cravings and Mood by Maria Emmerich. With 102 pages of information, you'll learn far more than just Vitamin D info. You'll find the many people stories from the clients that she serves, super informative and fascinating.
