SAY GOODBYE TO DRY, CRACKED SKIN
Fix your hands and feet with long-lasting, water-less lotion made with beeswax.
IS YOUR LOTION LEAVING YOU HIGH AND DRY?
Your liquid lotion might feel good at first, but how long does it last in your skin?
At what point do you need to re-apply it?
As for those deep cuts and splits, lotions and creams feel useless.
Bandage require re-applying every time you wash your hands.
These are not the answers to your dry skin needs.
All you really need to fix your dry, cracked skin is a 3-ingredient Beesilk Lotion Bar.
Why Liquid Lotions Aren't as Effective
Why is water the enemy of skincare ingredients?
Look at the ingredient list of any pump lotion and you'll see that water is often at the top of the list (also known as aqua on the list). Here's why it doesn't work for your dry skin.
- Introducing water to a product requires the product to contain preservatives to extend the shelf life. These preservatives and additives can irritate the skin.
- Water lessens the sealing effect. You want the waterproofing from the beeswax to lock in the shea butter and coconut oil.
- Products containing water will require that you apply them more often since they tend to not last as long in the skin.
BANDAGES 😩
Bandages provide immediate relief for cracked skin, but every time you wash your hands, you have to replace the bandage.
PUMP LOTION 😠
Traditional lotion helps at first, but it doesn't provide ongoing relief and leaves a mess if left open in your purse or backpack.
What is a Lotion Bar?
A "hard lotion bar" is lotion that is solid at room temperature. It is designed to specifically protect hands and feet from cracked skin and extreme dry skin.
What's in the 3- ingredient hard lotion bar?
The Beesilk hard lotion bar has only three simple ingredients: shea butter, coconut oil and beeswax. Shea butter and coconut oil are known emollients, so safe, they're edible. They soften and soothe dry skin and are gentle enough to rub over skin cuts and cracks. The beeswax emulsifies the other two ingredients to add long-lasting moisturizing. This is all you need to get your hands back to work.
BEESWAX
Beeswax carries antiviral, anti-inflammatory, and antibacterial properties. It forms a protective wall by sealing in moisture in our skin without clogging up the pores.
COCONUT OIL
Coconut oil is a fantastic skin moisturizer and because of its 76-degree melting point, it’s a perfect ingredient to allow the other two ingredients to absorb on contact when applied to the skin.
BETH
"I am impressed with how Beesilk does a great job of moisturizing my skin and will definitely buy again but in larger sizes!"
TERESA
"I got my hands on a Beesilk hard lotion bar and literally within 24 hours my cracked/dry hands are nearly back to normal."
My Dry Skin Struggle
For as long as I can remember, I've had dry skin.
I remember the cracks in my heels from walking barefoot in the hot California summers.
My knuckles would be wrapped in bandages from the cuts that my hands experienced constantly. If the lotion tube promised "relief for extreme dry skin" on the label, then I owned it.
I figured my dry skin issues were normal, and lotion products were there to fix it. Unfortunately, they were pretty much useless.
And then I became a mom. Not just once, but nine more times.
Somewhere between frequent diaper changing and all the hand-washing that went with it, and all the meal-prep that worked my hands several times a day, my hands got worse and worse.
The pain went deep. And I experienced it daily.
At its worst, I couldn’t chop fruits and vegetables, especially anything that could bring on the sting. Like lemons. It meant I had to ask my husband to step in and do the chopping for me.
It meant that every time I ran my hands under flowing water, I would grimace in pain.
It meant that each hand-washing routine involved unwrapping yet another bandage to apply to the cracked skin.
It meant that while pump lotion might bring temporary relief, I knew I would have to re-apply it the next time I washed my hands.
WHAT FINALLY WORKED FOR MY DRY, CRACKED SKIN
December 2008… I met the answer to my extreme dry skin issue.
It involved one 3-ingredient recipe.
It’s here that I give some credit to my mom for getting me on the right track.
My mom, like me, struggled with the same painful dry skin issues. I’ve since learned that it’s often hereditary.
We would compare stories, especially when it came to our attempts at fixing it.
For my mom, it was tubs of Eucerin and Nivea. To this day, if I smell either of those products, I’m reminded of my mom. She told me about Bag Balm (a product created for dry cow udders and then repurposed for human dry skin), I told her to try overnight gloves. The first was too greasy, the second left our skin feeling raw the next morning. At the very least, my home, and her home, were always stocked with Band-aids.
We went through a lot of Band-aids.
And then on that cold, December day, she called me up, “Have you ever heard of a bar of lotion?”
“You mean soap?” I asked.
“No, no. Lotion. In a bar. A friend found some at a farmer’s market and gave me one. It’s working wonders for me but I’m almost out. Think you can figure out how to make it?”
Challenge accepted.
My mom always called me Susie Homemaker because I was not only baking bread and brewing kombucha, I was also making soap. How hard could lotion be?
Turns out, lotion CAN be hard. Not hard to make… that part is easy. Lotion can be HARD, as in solid! And it’s a fix for extremely dry, cracked skin. I’ll tell you how it works in a minute…
So with some sleuthing on the Internet, I finally found some instructions deep in a soap makers’ forum, teaching others how to make a Hard Lotion Bar. I chose the recipe with the most easily accessible ingredients found at my natural foods store. And then, I made my first lotion bar.
LOTION BARS FOR DRY SKIN: DO THEY WORK?
If I could somehow convince you that you can now toss your messy pump lotion with all its promises of dry skin relief.
If I could look you in the eye and tell you that your Band-aids will only need to be used for minor emergencies and not daily use.
If I could promise that your overnight cotton gloves can be used instead by your 4-year-old and her princess costume, I would do it in a heartbeat. In fact, that promise holds true if you scroll down and let me do just that.
Your key to getting your hands back to smooth again? Apply a hard lotion bar.
Your kitchen tools are back and ready for use. And they feel GOOD.
Here’s how I got my hands smooth again:
After creating the bar, I let it rest until ready for use, which was just a couple hours, not days.
A hard lotion bar looks like soap, but it’s not. NO WATER REQUIRED.
HOW TO USE A LOTION BAR: It simply involved taking the bar in my hands and rubbing it over my skin. Not too much but enough to feel the ingredients absorb in. I set down the bar and continued rubbing until everything was fully absorbed. It took 20 seconds, at the most.

WHO DO LOTION BARS WORK BEST FOR?
Is this you:
- You or a family member struggles with mild eczema and the least invasive route to treat it is to "keep it lotioned up" according to your dermatologist. The next suggestion of steroids worries you.
- Or your family struggles from food allergies that also affect the skin.
- Or you're tired of not knowing which ingredients are safe for the skin, and which you should be avoiding. You wonder if your dry or problematic skin is due to product ingredients.
- Your skin is aging and you've noticed a difference in the dryness.
- You wonder if your prescription drugs for something completely unrelated to your skin may be affecting the look and feel of your skin.
HOW A LOTION BAR FEELS ON THE SKIN:
It didn’t hurt, not even when I rubbed hard over the cuts and splits. After setting down the bar, I wanted to continue to rub my hands together. I made sure every little nook and cranny of my hands received the full effect of the lotion bar.
Already, my skin felt amazing. The cuts no longer hurt and my hands felt soft.
Done. Lotion applied. How would it affect my activities?
Other lotions and emollients couldn’t match what this hard lotion bar did. Those always left my hands feeling greasy. I’ve since learned that they contain a lot of ingredients that aren’t good for the skin. Ingredients like petroleum. And fragrances. Even water can do more damage than good (more on that later).
With the lotion bar, I could go right back to my activities, whether it was sitting down to type a letter, sign my name to a check, or chop an apple for the kids. My skin felt GREAT.
It felt better than great. It felt SILKY SMOOTH.
Hours later it STILL felt amazing. Normally, by now, I’d have to re-apply a pump lotion. But this hard lotion bar application held up, from morning until night.
WHAT WE LEARNED AT THE FARMER'S MARKET
That very recipe that I found deep in a soap forum on the Internet became the 3-ingredient recipe that fixed my dry skin that day in December.
Several months later, my young sons and I brought the bar to “market” - a local farmer’s market had started up in my city. Having zero experience in selling, the hard lotion bar (we affectionately named it Beesilk) sold itself. All we really had to do was provide samples to the many housewives, electricians, cattle ranchers, and school teachers in our community who had the same dry skin issues that I had. The free sample brought them back for a larger “pocket-size” bar to try out, and they would return a couple weeks later for the “full-size bar” for longer-term use.
After a few months of testing the bar at various farmer's markets and craft shows, we were convinced that we needed to continue to get Beesilk into the hands of more people who needed it. For that, we chose to go online.
We quickly gained the support and endorsement of many popular bloggers.

WELLNESS MAMA
"If you want to use lotion bars but don’t have the time or ingredients to make them yourself, I found a great small business, Made On, that makes all kinds of lotion bars, soaps, natural baby products, and hair products that are up to my standards."
WARDEH,
TRADITIONAL COOKING SCHOOL
"I hop into bed each night with my hands and feet well coated (and I mean, well coated) with hard lotion. So much healing and restoration happens during the night when we're still and inactive. I wake up with soft and hydrated skin. "
BEESILK HARD LOTION BAR VS LIQUID LOTION
NO WATER
Our Beesilk bar DOES NOT CONTAIN water. What does that mean for you? No preservatives that often irritate the skin. We also leave out the unwanted fragrances and other ingredients that have proven to make your skin feel worse with dryness. Water-based lotions require plenty of re-applying. Water makes up the majority of the ingredient listing, so you’re pretty much paying for… water.
YES! BEESWAX
Our Beesilk bar DOES contain beeswax! Beeswax keeps the other two ingredients (coconut oil and shea butter) in your skin longer. Even with frequent hand-washing, you’ll find that you only need to apply once or twice a day to get FULL relief.
TRAVEL-FRIENDLY!
Because it’s in bar form, our Beesilk bar does not leak, spill or create a mess. In fact, it’s PERFECT for travel. With a liquid lotion, you can only take so many ounces of liquid products in your take on baggage, but if it’s a lotion bar, it’s not counted. The best part? Traveling causes dry skin and Beesilk obviously takes care of that.
WHAT OUR CUSTOMERS THINK...
This stuff is amazing! For years my hands were awful. They would crack open & bleed in multiple spots. And be so dry no one wanted to touch my hands. My teenagers would make fun of how awful my hands looked & felt. It was so bad that it would almost make me cry with how painful they were. I have tried everything from natural oils to really expensive, name brand lotions & ointments. None of them would work or come even close to the Natural lotion bar! After just a few uses my hands are 100% better!! I'm really amazed at how well it works! Thanks so much Renee!!!

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
-
Can the products melt during shipment?
We have had this happen only a handful of times out of the tens of thousands of products shipped over the years, even in 110-degree weather. That said, if you know you will be out of town for several days and your package will sit in a hot mailbox, we recommend waiting until someone is home to receive them. If your package is not delivered intact, let us know asap and we'll take care of that for you.
-
When do the products expire?
We guarantee 6 months from the time of purchase. If there is any change in the product like ingredient separation due to temperature changes, or other change in appearance, we will replace it at no cost. As for expiration, the products have a minimum of a year or longer before any type of rancidity could develop.
-
What if the product doesn't work for me as promised?
If you are not happy with your product for any reason, let us know within 30 days and we will refund your order.
-
How can the products last so long when there are no preservatives?
They are anhydrous (they don't contain water). If a product contains water (or an aqueous solution like hydrosol, herbal infusions, aloe vera), it needs a preservative.

What do you recommend for eczema?
While we can't claim to cure skin conditions like eczema or psoriasis, many of our customers have been helped by our Beesilk bars and Beesilk Jr. while they look into the cause of their skin condition. We have many articles on our blog that can help steer you in the right direction to get to the root cause, which is often happening internally (oftentimes, eczema can be triggered by the diet... you may want to try eliminating dairy, gluten or one of the other common allergens).
