If you could create the IDEAL moisturizing lotion for dry skin, what would it need to include? (Here are my answers:)
-
If my skin is cracked and split, it can’t hurt when I apply it.
-
It needs to be something that lasts a long time on my skin so I don’t have to keep re-applying it.
-
It shouldn’t have any ingredients that irritate my skin by solving one problem but causing another.
-
I’d prefer it didn’t have a scent. Scent is okay sometimes but I’d rather not have something that competes with my perfume should I choose to wear it.
-
My skin must feel fantastic after I apply it. I don’t want to feel greasy.
Enter the lotion bar!
What is a lotion bar?
A lotion bar is a solid moisturizer that looks similar to a bar of soap, but it is made with nourishing oils and butters that melt when they come in contact with warm skin. It is used to nourish and moisturize dry areas like hands, elbows, and feet. Lotion bars are a convenient and mess-free alternative to traditional liquid lotions, making them perfect for on-the-go use.
What ingredients are in a lotion bar?
All you need to create a lotion bar is a wax (we use beeswax), a butter (our top choice is shea butter because it's great for the skin, including the face, and is excellent for mild eczema) and an oil (we choose coconut oil because it's the one oil that melts at 76 degrees, making it a perfect "absorber" into the skin.
What does a lotion bar smell like?
Our Beesilk hard lotion bar has a very light beeswax scent... that's it! We do have scented lotion bars that are lightly scented with essential oils. Check out our varieties here: https://store.hardlotion.com/products/scented-lotion-bars
How do you use a lotion bar?
To use a lotion bar, hold it between your hands or rub it directly onto dry areas of your skin. The warmth of your skin will melt the lotion bar, releasing the moisturizing oils and butters. Massage the lotion into your skin until it is fully absorbed, and reapply as needed. Store your lotion bar in a cool, dry place when not in use to prevent it from melting.
Can a lotion bar fix YOUR skin?
As a mom who suffered from splits and cracks in my fingers and heels, I just about gave up some of my favorite activities, like baking bread, cooking exotic Mediterranean cuisine, and making soap. Anything that came in contact with the splits would sting like crazy.
Does this describe your skin?
-
If not your skin, maybe you have a child with mild eczema and the least invasive route to treat it is to "keep it lotioned up" according to your dermatologist. The next suggestion of steroids worries you.
-
Or your family struggles from food allergies that also affect the skin.
-
Or you're tired of not knowing which ingredients are safe for the skin, and which you should be avoiding.
These make you and your family members a perfect candidate for the lotion bar.
What are other benefits of using a lotion bar?
Honestly, the biggest one is that it lasts. You're not re-applying every hour. One swipe in the morning and your hands still feel it that evening , even after washing them.
It's also mess-free in a way that liquid lotion just isn't. No pump that drips, no cap that gets sticky. The bar sits in its little tin and you're done.
The pocket size fits in a purse, a gym bag, a work drawer. I've had customers tell me they keep one on the kitchen counter, one by the bed, one in the car. Once you use it, that's just what you do.
And because there are only 3 ingredients, you actually know what's going on your skin. No guessing. No googling "is this safe."
That matters more than people realize until they've spent a winter reacting to something they can't identify.
Ready to make your skin soft again?
If your skin gets splits and cracks, we've got you covered.
No more Band-Aids, goopy lotion, greasy lanolin, or other ineffective skin care.
Lotion Bar Before & After Photos
They're not just for hands!
Use hard lotion bars on your heels, your rough elbows, "alligator skin" on your legs... the list is endless!
Here are some customer reviews:
JoAnn: "My hands and heels have never felt so soft and no longer dry / cracked. I bought one for my daughter-in-law so I am anxious for her to try, too."
Maria: "I mean it when I say I really never write reviews. But this product has been transformative for me. After 8 long winters of extremely painful bleeding cracks, usually two or three at different stages of healing on each hand, I have had an almost crack free winter this year since I started using Bee Silk. The few cracks I have gotten have been instantly soothed by the product and have healed quickly. I used to wear nitrile gloves most of the day to protect my cracked fingertips from painful contact with everything. Now I am free of that and I’m so grateful! Thank you!!"
Love the bar but I’ve received texts and emails daily that are trying to sell me more products. Let the good product speak for itself, you’ve cheapened the entire enterprise… 😔
works really well even on the first application my hands look and feel better

It is a great idea. Loved it. I will be back for more
I’m happy with this bar so far. I won’t be using it for skin lotion though. My nails are very dry and crack a lot so I’m just rubbing it onto my nails and it feels good and seems to hydrate them.
Love it works great
I really like these lotion bars, especially in the summer when they're softer and glide effortlessly over my skin. They create a nice barrier that retains moisture, even after washing my hands.
Love the idea that it will travrel well! No scent which I like and so moisturizing!

Love the minimal ingredients that actually WORK!
Love the Beesilk lotion bar the best...so much better than regular hand lotion which I feel just dries your hands out more. Great company, great product...I’ll be back for more.
After “discovering” Beesilk hard lotion it has become my go-to lotion. With a sensitivity to fragrances, I’m so happy to find something that is one of quality with minimal ingredients.
I like the pure ingredients and the size. Easy to travel with.
